Muskoska brewery attacks with their Spring seasonal. Here’s the brewery’s low down on the beer:

“Each year the tempered thaw of Muskoka winter gives rise to new and strange creations. The culmination of ingredients like Heather Tips, Juniper Berries and Shaved Orange Peel rests in the LEGENDARY MUSKOKA SPRING ODDITY brew.”

Muskoka also really pushes the fact that the Spring Oddity is made with pure Muskoka water, so if you’ve ever wondered what Tom Thompson’s tears mixed with speedboat oil tastes like, this might be your best shot. Not a bad label either.

I do have to admit, this light bodied strong brew is odd. At the first sip, I thought that I was drinking a Leffe, but it then leaves you feeling like you’ve sipped a strong ale. Now I’m not going to accuse Muskoka of pouring their Weiss beer and Mad Tom IPA together to make the Spring Oddity, but draw your own conclusion by the website placement: http://www.muskokabrewery.com/beers.php

All in all, the Spring Oddity is a flavorful brew that is worth a try and, for a bottle of wine’s worth of 8% beer, I can’t complain too much about the price. They may be preceding themselves with the “Legendary” title, but I get the gimmick and can buy in.

Will I go back for more…I don’t think so. However, fans of the LCBO’s German selections may find this to be a refreshing way to score a buzz.

To me, it reminded me of Leffe and also a little like Chimay, but at 50% higher cost. I enjoyed it (Leffe is probably my favourite beer, and Muskosa one of my favourite breweries), but I don’t see the value at that price.
