End to Craft Beer at Blue Jays Games :(

As was reported recently, the Toronto Blue Jays contract with Steam Whistle was not renewed for the upcoming season resulting in craft beer being no more at the Rogers Centre. With Rogers Centre being the only MLB venue without craft beer available, will Jays stand for it?

Craft vs. Crafty – Brewers Association “You’ve Probably Never Heard of Us”

Last Thursday the Brewers Association, the voice of craft beer in the United States (and Canada), released a statement entitled “Craft vs. Crafty”. In this statement, surprise surprise, the BA takes on major breweries and criticizes their somewhat unannounced entry into the craft beer market. I’m quite divided on this statement. Certainly, I am for […]

Westvleteren 12

Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. If you are still reading this, you’ve probably guessed that I didn’t get my hands on any Westvleteren 12…you know, that ultra rare Belgian trappist beer that you can normally only buy direct from the monks that brew it in Belgium (or something like that)? That beer that is rated 100 on BeerAdvocate? That […]

Obama’s White House Beer and the Freedom of Information Request for the Recipe

Obama and beer are big news lately. First, it was reported that he has the White House staff brewing two varieties of homebrew; one of which is the White  House Honey Ale, brewed using honey from Michelle Obama’s bee hive, also onsite. Apparently Obama is traveling with the stuff too. Then a beer tent operator at an Iowa […]

McGuinty Takes Credit for Ontario Craft Beer Success

In an interestingly timed announcement, the McGuinty government sent around a press release Saturday entitled “Ontario Microbreweries Thriving”. Yippee, the government figured it out. Could this perhaps have something to do with the Liberals rejecting the sale of beer in convenience stores early last week and the Conservatives vaguely suggesting they’d be “open” to it (i.e. would also reject it, but […]

Texas Study Exhibits the Economic Benefits to the Craft Beer Industry

An economic impact study released yesterday by the Texas Craft Brewers Guild shows that Texas craft brewers furnish over 51% of brewery jobs in the state despite the fact that only 0.7% of the beer consumed in Texas is made by its craft brewers. The study also shows that the growth of the Texas craft […]

Heineken’s bid to buy Asia……..Pacific Breweries

You know how Asia has all those burgeoning ecnonomies…well it seems that with the slowly declining sales of major brewers in North America, we are seeing a reversal of the eastern brewers buying out the west (e.g. Sapporo’s 2006 acquisition of Sleeman), as the western brands look to move east for sales. On Friday Dutch brewer Heineken offered $4.06 billion […]

Ikea Releases Beer

This is about as necessary as anything at Ikea. And its probably as good for the price too. Hey, I’d take a beer with my hotdog, and who doesn’t need a drink after managing the field of cart pushing maniacs. Unfortunately, its a UK thing only and, at least for now, it looks like the stuff isn’t […]
